Learn the skills used in traditional folk and blues "harp" playing; hand positioning, breathing, bending, swells, sliding, playing chords, clean control of single notes, straight harp, and cross harp. We'll cover a range of southern vernacular styles including country, blues, gospel, folk, and old time music.
Each week our goal will be to introduce a new set of skills, then will slowly go over and play a song that applies those skills. The emphasis is on learning and applying, and each class includes a review of songs and techniques from earlier weeks. Playing by ear is encouraged and hard copy tab is provided for all songs. Each class ends with a 2-5 minute summary for recording devices.
Please bring a recording device and 10-hole diatonic harmonicas in the key of C. Recommended instruments are the Hohner Crossover, Marine Band or Special 20.
