SUSAN ALCORN
Born in Baltimore, Alcorn started playing guitar at the age of twelve and quickly immersed herself in folk music, blues, and the pop music of the 1960s. A chance encounter with blues musician Muddy Waters steered her towards playing slide guitar. By the time she was twenty-one, she had immersed herself in the pedal steel guitar, playing in country and western swing bands in Texas.

Soon, she began to combine the techniques of country-western pedal steel with her own extended techniques to form a personal style influenced by free jazz, avant-garde classical music, Indian ragas, Indigenous traditions, and various folk musics of the world. By the early 1990s her music began to show an influence of the holistic and feminist “deep listening” philosophies of Pauline Oliveros.

Though mostly a solo performer, Alcorn has collaborated with numerous artists including Pauline Oliveros, Eugene Chadbourne, Peter Kowald, Chris Cutler, Joe Giardullo, Caroline Kraabel, Earl Howard, Le Quan Ninh, Sean Meehan, Joe McPhee, LaDonna Smith, Mike Cooper, Walter Daniels, Ellen Fullman, Jandek, George Burt, Janel Leppin, Michael Formanek, Ellery Eskelin, Fred Frith, Maggie Nicols, Evan Parker, Johanna Varner, Zane Campbell and Mary Halvorson.

DOUG JERNIGAN
Doug Jernigan was born in Pensacola Florida. When Doug was nine years of age his father bought him his first steel guitar. By the time he was fourteen years old he was playing on the weekends at VFW and Legion Halls in the Pensacola area. At the age of eighteen he had his first professional job in Ohio prior to being drafted in 1965 into the United States Army.

In his early years ('60s & '70s), Doug toured as a backup player for Ferlin Husky, David Houston, Jimmy Dickens, Faron Young, Vassar Clements, Johnny Paycheck, Lorrie Morgan and Jack Greene. and many others. That road work honed his skills. He has recorded with Betty Jean Robinson, Joe Paul Nichols and many other gospel groups.

For his many accomplishments on the steel guitar, Doug was inducted into the International Steel Guitar Hall of Fame in 1994.

Today, Doug continues as a recording artist, session player, teacher of the steel guitar and musician in his home church of River of Life Assembly of God located in Smyrna, Tennessee.

MIKE NEER
Mike Neer began his career as a guitarist and vocalist and switched over to lap steel guitar exclusively 10 years ago. They all said he was crazy and they were right, but he was crazy about steel guitar, especially the playing of Speedy West and Sol Hoopii.

His solo debut recording, Steelonious (2016), earned the praise of Jazz writers and critics for his ambitious take on the music of Thelonious Monk. Mike referred to the recording as “unjazzing Monk”, and he continues to explore the rich catalog of jazz compositions for his unique steel guitar arrangements. Mike performs regularly with his band around the NY/NJ area.
