Join us for a classical sitar performance featuring Alif Laila on Sitar accompanied by Mir Naquibul Islam on tabla. Laila's work is diverse and includes recordings with several world-renowned tabla artists, collaborations with South Indian classical and Jazz saxophone, compositions of a Sitar/Cello duet, and music for the Dakshina Dance Company. She has often combined her sitar concerts with her watercolor paintings in the US, UK, and Bangladesh. Laila trained with Ustad Mir Qasem Khan, nephew of the legendary maestro, Ustad Alauddin Khan (Ravi Shankar's guru), as well as, Partha Chatterjee, Krishna Bhatt, and Kushal Das. Over the course of her career, she has performed in prestigious venues including: The Kennedy Center, The Shakespeare Theater in Washington, DC, The Purcell Room in South Bank Center, London, The Nehru Center in London, The Bengal Festival in Dhaka, and The India International Centr, New Delhi. Mir Naquibul Islan, a young classical artist of this generation, is a regular performer in the classical music arena of Dhaka and New York both as a soloist and an accompanist. He is a student of Shri Ashoke Paul, who is a disciple of Padmabhushan Pandit Jnan Prakash ghosh. At present, Mir is taking talim from Pandit Anindo Chatterjee.
