SING WITH YOUR EARS: HARMONY AND EAR TRAINING
For beginner to intermediate singers
Wednesdays at 7pm
March 21, 28, April 11, 18, 25, May 2
This class will use a song-based approach to lead singers through the steps it takes to hear harmonies, understand chord-based harmonizing, and feel comfortable singing individual lines. We'll connect together the more theoretical side with a dive-in approach, where you will learn through DOING! Each class will begin with fifteen minutes of ear training exercises, where you will learn to go up and down the major and minor scales, identify and repeat intervals, improvise on chord-based patterns, and practice finding notes to build a a chord. Then, using rounds, canons, simple partner songs, and two and three-part harmony songs from various American and world traditions, you'll be able put the ear training work into practice. By connecting the concepts of harmonizing to the experience of doing it, that class aims to give you the tools you need to sing in harmony with confidence and independence.
